Boxing holds no judgment or grudges, it is a place where you test your skills, speed, power and agility. When you are in the ring you aren’t really fighting your opponent, you are battling the stories you tell yourself, the stories of whether you are good enough or strong enough, or even smart enough to get though this next round. Boxing is like everyday life, you get knocked down, you get back up and if not you’re out. Failure happens, success happens and no matter whether you win or lose, you leave all your blood, sweat and tears in the ring, the same way you do in life when achieving your goals. You have to work hard, train hard and try even harder than you think possible. Boxing and martial arts require discipline, focus, consistency, tenacity, and an unwavering belief in yourself and your ability to do things you didn’t think were possible for you. Like break a 2 inch think brick to receive my black belt in Kempo, which I did just over 6 months ago. I am not sure where I would be in life without Kempo and Boxing but Boxing changed my life!
Years ago after I decided that I needed to change the direction of my life, I found martial arts and boxing. And I have to say they not only changed the direction of my life, they literally saved me from me from myself and set the foundation for me to be who I am and helped me confidently accept myself. Boxing and martial arts gave me the confidence to believe in myself and the ability to fight for what and who was important, which was myself and she was someone I was new to fighting for. If you are like me, then fighting for yourself might be new to you too, however I know now that I need to fight for me first before I can fight for anyone else. Boxing became my savior, my solace, my place to let it all out!
