6 Summer ShakesIn Arizona summer time starts in late April and doesn’t fully end until November.  So usually when this starts to happen, I am looking for something quick and refreshing to have for a snack or meal.  Now bars can be great but overall I am not a bar girl, I am a shake it up woman!! There are so many ways that you can doctor up a shake to change the taste and make it refreshing and satisfying.  Plus I have found it is a bad ass way to get in some greens especially for people who don’t like to eat them.  Why eat them when  you can drink them?

Another benefit to shakes is that they take less than 5 minutes to make and can be made ahead of time for a quick on the go meal.  And in talking to many women about one of their biggest struggles it is “I need meals and food that are quick and healthy.”  Sometimes it seems easier to drive-thru Dunkin Donuts or Micky D’s but let me tell you, all of these shakes are made in less time than going through the drive through and will make you feel more confident about your choices, give you more energy and help you feel better about yourself.  Yes I said it, eating the food that loves your body will help you love yourself even more than you already do.  Plus there is no guilt involved with these shakes and I know from experience that there is guilt involved in the drive-thru line and lots of “convincing yourself” that is okay because you did or will do x,y,z or you don’t do it very often so it is okay “this time.” Personal experience has taught me that “this time” is not the only time and the more I have to justify why I am making the choice I am, the more I don’t feel good about the choice I am making.

So instead of justifying your drive-thru choices, just make one of these 6 summer shakes at home:

1) Peanut Butter Dream – 1 Cup Almond Milk (or other milk substitute or water), 1 scoop vanilla Plant Fusion Protein Powder (best for fat loss but you can also use 100% Whey), 2 tbsp of PB2 (best for fat loss but you can use 1tbsp REAL PB), and 1 cup ice.  Put ingredients in the blender in order listed and blend on high for 30-60 seconds.  Pour and drink now or pack for later.

2) Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie – 1 cup almond milk, 1 scoop Vanilla Plant Fusion Protein Powder, 2 tbsp Raw Cacao Powder (I prefer Navitas Naturals but you can also use raw Cocoa powder too), 2 tbsp PB2, and 1 cup ice.  Put ingredients in the blender in order listed and blend on high for 30-60 seconds.  Pour and drink now or pack for later.

3) Popeye Strength – 1 cup almond milk, 2-4 cups raw baby spinach (2 cups is one serving of spinach, I usually have 4 but start at 2 and work your way to 4), 1 scoop Vanilla Plant Fusion Protein Powder, and 1 cup organic frozen Strawberries. Put ingredients in the blender in order listed and blend on high for 30-60 seconds.  May need to blend up to two minutes. Pour and drink now or pack for later.

4) Berry Kale Delicious – 1 cup Almond milk, 2-4 cups Baby Kale (you can use regular but I have found BABY Kale is lighter in take then regular kale with still the same great benefits), 1 scoop Vanilla Plant Fusion Protein Powder, and 1 cup frozen organic or wild blueberries. Put ingredients in the blender in order listed and blend on high for 30-60 seconds. May need to blend up to 2 minutes.  Pour and drink now or pack for later.

5) Chocolate Covered Strawberry – 1 cup almond milk, 1 scoop vanilla Plant Fusion Protein Powder, 2 tbsp raw Cacao powder, & 2/3 cup frozen organic strawberries.  Put ingredients in the blender in order listed and blend on high for 30-60 seconds, up to 2 minutes if necessary.  Pour and drink now or pack for later.

6) PB&J – 1 cup almond milk, 1 scoop vanilla Plant Fusion Protein Powder, 2 tbsp PB2, and 1/2 cup frozen organic blueberries or strawberries.  Put ingredients in the blender in order listed and blend on high for 30-60 seconds.  Pour and drink now or pack for later.

These are the 6 shakes we enjoy on a regular basis in our house.  They are quick, easy, refreshing and filling.  And these aren’t just for the summer, you can enjoy them anytime of the year.
